The vocational college east is a day school and evening school for the second educational path in the Essen district of Huttrop as well as a vocational school. Here pupils can obtain the Abitur or the technical college entrance qualification. In addition, the school part of the dual training is offered for 39 professions .

The vocational college was originally located in the building of today's Ruhr college at Seminarstrasse 9. Due to a lack of space, a new building complex was built at Knaudtstrasse 25 in 1975 and the company moved into in 1976. The new building has a larger capacity of 20,370 m² compared to the old building with 1,580 m². The educational complex has:

The vocational college also has a branch in the Grugapark , near the model garden. This is used for training in gardening and landscaping . With an area of 20,370 m² and around 3700 students, the school is the largest vocational college in Essen .
