history

Apple Capital Museum

In 1810 the first settlers settled in the area. Loyalists followed , whose descendants still live in the village today. In the beginning the place had different names, for example Pleasant Valley , Currey's Corner and Davison's Corner . After all, it was also called Berwick based on the city of Berwick in the US state of Maine . Since the region was very fertile, agriculture, especially the operation of vegetable and fruit plantations, became the main livelihood of the inhabitants. The connection to a railway line made the nationwide transport of goods noticeably easier, as stagecoaches were originally used for this. The city was officially founded on May 25, 1923.

The harvest as well as the trade and processing of apples has remained the most important industry up to the present day and the city calls itself the Apple Capital of Nova Scotia . An “ Apple Blossom Festival ” is held every spring .

In the place is the Apple Capital Museum , in which, among other things, a chronology of the history of the apple industry of the Annapolis Valley is presented.
