Berytinus minor is a bug from the family of stilt bugs (Berytidae).

features

The bugs are 5.3 to 6.8 millimeters long. Characteristic of representatives of the genus Berytinus , they have a short second antennae link that is shorter than the club on the first link. They also have short thighs ( femora ) on the hind legs that do not reach the tip of the corium of the hemielytrae . In Berytinus minor the club of the first antennae is black. The thighs have no black tip and the head is shorter than the pronotum .

distribution and habitat

The species is distributed from the northern Mediterranean to the Arctic Circle and east to the Caucasus and Siberia. In Central Europe, the species is widespread and often not rare. In some places it is the most common species of its genus. It is the most common and widespread type of family in the UK. A wide variety of open habitats are populated with dry to moderately moist soils with different substrates.

Way of life

The animals live on the ground under different types of plants. They obviously prefer legumes (Fabaceae) such as clover ( Trifolium ), grouse ( Ononis ) and snail clover ( Medicago ). As with Berytinus hirticornis, overwintering takes place in cushions of moss, under plant rosettes or in the dry litter and the females also lay the eggs individually on the leaves of the food plants in May and June. Obviously, if the conditions are favorable in Central Europe, a second generation can be formed each year, with mating in July and August.
