Betenbrunn is a district of the municipality of Heiligenberg in the Lake Constance district in Baden-Württemberg with about 100 inhabitants.

history

The parish of Betenbrunn was mentioned for the first time in 1275. During the Middle Ages, the name was Bettenbrunnen and can be traced back to a personal name ("Brunnen des Betto"). In 1373 a Franciscan monastery was founded on site, which was moved to Überlingen after 15 years .

In 1399 the Werdenberg -Heiligenberg family founded a canon monastery. From 1414 to 1586 the church was burial place for the Counts of Werdenberg-Heiligenberg, and in 1801 the monastery was moved to Donaueschingen . The municipality of Wintersulgen, to which Betenbrunn belonged, was incorporated into Heiligenberg on January 1, 1975.

Culture and sights

Buildings

Betenbrunn is located on the Upper Swabian Baroque Road . What is left of the monastery is the parish and pilgrimage church of St. Maria in Betenbrunn, a rococo sanctuary that essentially goes back to the Donaueschingen court architect Bickel. The pilgrimage fountain on the church square from the late 15th century indicates the source that gives the place its name.

Regular events

Every year, Betenbrunn celebrates a traditional village festival on the first Sunday in September on the occasion of a church patronage.

Economy and Infrastructure

traffic

Betenbrunn is integrated into the local public transport network by line 7380.1 (Heiligenberg-Wintersulgen municipal transport ) of the Bodensee-Oberschwaben transport association ( bodo ).

The fourth stage of the Anniversary Trail around Lake Constance runs through Betenbrunn . It leads from the Markdorf train station to the fountain in front of the Fürstenberg family's castle in the center of Heiligenberg.

Wind power

Several areas around Betenbrunn are currently being considered by the regional association Bodensee-Oberschwaben as locations for wind turbines in the region; possible locations were determined in July 2011 by the Heiligenberg municipal council.
