The degree is steep on both sides, almost vertical, sloping and completely overgrown with grass.

Hike over the Bettlersteig

The Bettlersteig begins directly at the Berndlalm and takes about 2 hours over the Berndl-Hochalm ( ) to the Bettlerscharte and down to the Finkalm ( ) and Abichlalm in the Untersulzbachtal to the Stockeralm inn.

Extended directions

The Bettlersteig connects the two Sulzbach valleys. To save time, you can drive to the Berndlalm and start the hike from there. The path to the Bettlerscharte leads along the road to the Berndl-Hochalm. The narrow hiking trail branches off here, ascending slightly to the Kampriesen Hochalm and from there in steeper serpentines up to the 2002  m high Bettlerscharte. Once at the top you have a wonderful panoramic view. The descent into the Untersulzbachtal first leads over the moderately inclined high alpine pasture and then crosses the Wechsel gorge, sloping over very steep terrain. From there, the Bettlersteig leads leisurely over alpine meadows down to the cultivated Finkalm in the Untersulzbachtal. You can follow this path to Neukirchen or take the valley taxi from the Stockeralm inn.

The Bettlersteig is only suitable for experienced mountain hikers and partly leads over steep terrain. The walking time from the Berndlalm via the Bettlersteig to the Finkalm, or in the opposite direction, is 3 to 3.5 hours and includes a one-sided height difference of approx. 700 m.
