Betty Lynn Buckley (born July 3, 1947 in Big Spring , Texas ) is an American actress and singer .

Life and accomplishments

Betty Buckley participated in the Miss Texas Pageant and Miss Fort Worth competitions in 1966 . She graduated from Texas Christian University . She got her first film role in the horror film Carrie - Satan's Youngest Daughter from 1976, in which she played the teacher Miss Collins . In the film drama Comeback der Liebe (1983), which received two Academy Awards other awards, she starred alongside Robert Duvall . She was nominated for a Daytime Emmy in 1985 for her role in the episode Bobby and Sarah of the NBC Special Treat TV series (1984) .

In the thriller Frantic (1988) by Roman Polański , Buckley played the role of Sondra Walker , the kidnapped wife of the doctor Richard Walker ( Harrison Ford ). For her appearance in the episode Taking a Stand in the television series ABC Afterschool Specials , she was nominated again for the Daytime Emmy in 1989. In the comedy Simply Irresistible (1999) she played alongside Sarah Michelle Prinze .

In 2018 Buckley took on the role of Gran'ma Marie L'Angelle in the third season of the AMC television series Preacher , which can be seen in Germany on the streaming service Amazon Prime Video .

Buckley is also known as a stage actress. In 1983 she received the Tony Award for her role as Grizabella in the musical Cats . In 1998 she was nominated for a Tony Award for the role in the musical Triumph of Love , in which she played opposite F. Murray Abraham . As a singer, she was nominated twice for a Grammy Award .

Buckley was married to Peter Flood from 1972 to 1979.
