Bezalel Stern (pedagogue)
Bezalel Stern (* 1798 in Tarnopol , Galicia , † March 15, 1853 in Odessa ) was a Russian educator .
Life
He acquired extensive knowledge of the ancient and various modern languages by self-teaching and was appointed director of the Jewish school in Odessa in 1828, which he led carefully and successfully. In government circles he was considered an expert and was often asked for expert advice on the Jewish education system. 1843 he was transferred to St. Petersburg called the Lilienthal's advice education reforms with too.
He is also the spiritual father of the rabbinical seminars in Vilnius and Zhitomir .
In addition, he has rendered outstanding services to Karaean research, for which he received an award from the Russian government.
