District rabbinate Berlichingen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Berlichingen district rabbinate was established in Berlichingen in Württemberg in 1832 and was one of 13 district rabbinates , which were also known as district synagogues.

By decree of the Ministry of the Interior of August 3, 1832, following the amalgamation or dissolution of various Jewish communities, the now 41 communities were divided into 13 district rabbinates. Berlichingen became the seat of a rabbinical district because there was a large Jewish community there, which in 1846 had 249 members. The district rabbinates were subordinate to the upper church authority , which was also created in 1832 . The Berlichingen District Rabbinate came to the Mergentheim District Rabbinate in 1851 and later to the Heilbronn District Rabbinate .

tasks

The tasks included the execution of the sovereign ordinances, the proclamation and the enforcement of the ordinances of the higher church authority, advice on school matters, the administration of foundations and the distribution of alms . To finance the district rabbinates, levies were paid by the individual Jewish communities.
