Bhor was a princely state of British India on the heights of the Western Ghats southwest of Pune in what is now the state of Maharashtra . Its capital was the place Bhor . In 1697 the Brahmin Shankaraji Narayan received from Maharaja Rajaram of Satara , the younger son of the Marath leader Shivaji , as a fief for services rendered by Bhor as Jagir . The rulers carried the title Pant Sachiv, from 1936 Raja . Bhor was under British protectorate from 1820 to 1947 and became an independent princely state after the end of the Maratha state of Satara (1848).

1879-1901 Bhor had a state post with its own stamps . In 1941 it had an area of ​​2357 km² and 162,000 inhabitants.

After Great Britain had decided on July 18, 1947 to give India and Pakistan independence (see History of India ), the princely states of the Kolhapur and Deccan States Agency merged to form the Federation of the United Deccan States , which on February 5, 1948 in the State of Bombay was incorporated, from which on May 1, 1960 the state of Maharashtra was.
