Bielkenhagen 8 (Stralsund)
The building with the postal address Bielkenhagen 8 is a listed building in the street Bielkenhagen in Stralsund .
The four-story brick building was erected in 1869. It is slightly set back next to the Bielkenhagen 9 court building .
The block-like structure is rectangular. A band of yellow brick stands out against the red brick of the facade . On the long sides, gabled central projections are designed, which, like the gables of the transverse sides, have rising arched and toothed friezes , corner pilasters and turrets accentuated in the corners .
The house is located in the core area of the city area recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage site of the “ historic old towns of Stralsund and Wismar ”. It is entered in the list of architectural monuments in Stralsund with the number 101.
The building originally served as a prison for the Stralsund District Court. The court prison garden was the scene of the last beheading in Stralsund on April 21, 1855 , when the tailor Johann Joachim Lorenz, convicted of murder , was executed here . It is used today by the Stralsund District Court .
