Bierhütte is a district of the municipality of Hohenau in the Lower Bavarian district of Freyung-Grafenau .

location

Bierhütte is located in the Bavarian Forest a little more than two kilometers southeast of Hohenau on the federal highway 533 .

history

The former forest glassworks was mentioned as early as 1512 with the Schärdinger smelter Pleuer. In 1545 Jakob von Puchberg bought the glassworks "Zum Pleuer bei dem unten Chreutzberg". The Puchbergers, whose ancestral seat was Burg Buchberg in Austria, received a brewing license from Passau's Prince-Bishop Wolfgang von Salm in 1546 and around 1555 had the estate converted into a manorial brewery.

After the Puchberg family died out in 1558, the brewery belonged to the barons of Schwarzenberg and Hohenlandsberg in the second half of the 16th century . In 1592, Prince-Bishop Urban von Trennbach bought the Wildenstein-Puchberg estate from Jakob von Schwarzenberg, with which he also took over the Hütten estate. In 1593 the Pierhittn first appeared on a map under this name. The beer was allowed to be brewed, but not served, the operation of a tavern in huts like this was expressly forbidden.

After the brewery and the official apartment had burned down to the ground in 1721, the present stately building was erected, which was redesigned a little in 1810. Up until the secularization of Bavaria in 1803, there were 13 brewery administrators known by name. A village developed around the brewery, which in the land register of 1788 consisted of 17 properties.

In 1810 the property was auctioned by the Bavarian state. Lorenz von Lang became the new owner for 14,300 guilders. When the beer hut was transferred to the Petzi family in 1916, the brewery was closed. Then there was a small tavern, storage and living space. The condition of the building deteriorated noticeably and the deterioration threatened.

In 1967 the Störzer family acquired the dilapidated building and in the same year began to renovate the exterior and interior. The building was preserved as a monument and opened its doors as a hotel and restaurant in 1973. Architect Ludwig Störzer received the honorary award from the Bavarian Forest Association in 1975 .
