Georg Pasterwitz

Georg Pasterwi (t) z , worldly first name Robert Johannes Ivo (born March 7, 1730 in Bierhütte near Hohenau ; † January 26, 1803 in Kremsmünster ) was an Austrian Catholic clergyman and composer .

He is the namesake of the Georg-von-Pasterwitz Middle School in Hohenau.

Life

As the son of Johann Andreas Pasterwiz and Theresia geb. More from Sonnegg and Mohrenburg, Pasterwitz began his training in Passau and continued it in Niederaltaich and from 1745 in the Stiftsgymnasium Kremsmünster . He then took theology in Salzburg, where he also studied law, mathematics and languages. He received composition lessons from Johann Ernst Eberlin, among others .

The Primiz took place on June 24, 1755, then he worked in various teaching posts in the monastery, but in particular 1767–1783 as a regens chori . After 1783 he worked as a pastor in Buchkirchen , until 1795 as Stiftshofmeister in Vienna , then as dean of the secondary schools and 1801-1803 as a conventual .

Although he has also published in other areas, he has emerged in particular as a composer of sacred and chamber music works as well as a whole series of singspiele for the Stiftstheater, partly on libretti by his brother and successor Beda Plank in Upper Austrian dialect.
