Arizona State Route 179 runs right through Big Park . The Highway Interstate 17 runs 10 kilometers southeast of the city, separated by a mountain range. Oak Creek flows to the north .

history

The name of the city is based on the originally open, park-like landscape that surrounded the place. In the early 1960s it was expanded to become a tourist center as the "Village of Oak Creek". Several hotels and motels were built, which also serve as accommodation for visitors to nearby Sedona. Big Park is an ideal starting point for tours to the nearby red rock formations and Härtlingen , for example to the 1468 meter high Bell Rock , the 1660 meter high Courthouse Butte or the Cathedral Rock , which has a highest elevation of 1500 meters . There is also the opportunity for excursions through varied canyons into the Coconino National Forest .

Demographic data

In 2007 a population of 6584 people was determined. The average age of the residents in 2007 was 55.5 years, which is significantly higher than the average for Arizona, which was 34.2 years at the same time. This indicates that Big Park is becoming increasingly popular as a retirement home due to the favorable climatic conditions.
