course

Big Wapwallopen Creek flows from Crystal Lake to the west and into Fairview Township. From there it flows along Arbutus Peak and intersects Pennsylvania Route 437 and PA 309 . After the Pole Bridge Swamp, the Big Wap flows in a south-southwest direction along the border of the Rice and Wright Townships. Here the Bow Creek (the first named feeder) flows into the Big Wap. The Watering Run also reaches it further to the southwest . The river now enters Dorrance Township and crosses Interstate 81 . A few kilometers later, the third and last named tributary ( Balliet Run ) flows into the river. In the further course the Big Wap crosses the border between Hollenback and Nescopeck Township several times. Later it marks the gap between Nescopeck and Conyngham Township for a mile and a half. It crosses Pennsylvania Route 239 and joins the Susquehanna River near the village of Wapwallopen .

Hydrology

The Big Wapwallopen Creek has an average of 1.5 m³ / s of water (annual average, measured between 1920 and 2013 just before the mouth). In the event of a flood, up to approx. 400m³ / s can be conducted there (0.2% probability).

In 1975 and 1976, intensive hydrological surveys were carried out on the river. The pH of the river varied between 5.9 and 7.5. The water hardness was between 12 and 42 µg / L.
