Wayside shrine in the sweep
The wayside shrine in the Kehr on the district of the Palatinate country town Deidesheim is a land monument that is classified as a cultural monument according to the monument protection law of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate .
The wayside shrine is located about half a kilometer northwest of Deidesheim in the "Kehr" corridor at a crossroads. The 300 cm high wayside shrine made of yellow sandstone stands on a base. On this is a square pedestal , this bears the inscription "Philipp Adam Biffar USEF Gertraud 1816"; the abbreviation USEF means “and his wife.” On the pedestal stands a Tuscan column that narrows towards the top , the capital of which is a stepped plate on bulges . The top is another plate, which is bounded on both sides by curved volutes . On the front of the plate there is a relief of the crucified Jesus of Nazareth . The essay ends at the top with a curved, profiled end, which is crowned with a slightly etched cross.
It is the only example in the Palatinate in the form of wayside shrines, a form that was common in wayside shrines in Lower Franconia in the 18th and 19th centuries; an exception is the wayside shrine from 1863 near the neighboring town of Ruppertsberg (see list of cultural monuments in Ruppertsberg ), which is essentially a replica of the Deidesheim model.
