Illustration of the road signs in Austria

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The picture table of the road signs in Austria shows a selection of important road signs anchored in Austria . They are in the road traffic regulations (StVO) in section "D. Road traffic signs ”in paragraphs 48 to 54. The StVO introduced on January 1st, 1960 with its numerous amendments is valid.

In legal usage, the official designation according to the StVO is used almost exclusively; in linguistic usage, abbreviations or abbreviations with other names have become commonplace (for example, "subordinate table" instead of officially "give priority"; "stop board" instead of "stop").

There is no (official) numbering system for traffic signs in Austria. In legal and linguistic usage it is therefore not customary to name the road traffic signs using a number, rather the signs are named by their name.

The respective numbers (as a legal term) or number-letter combinations correspond within a paragraph of a paragraph either to an inserted number (such as "6a.") Or a further subdivision of the number into letters (such as lit. "a)") within the paragraph of the paragraph. The following number-letter combinations under the figures can therefore represent one of the two possibilities. The following designations for the traffic signs also do not always correspond to the wording of the StVO, so in case of doubt this must be observed (see web links).

In 2015, the Supreme Administrative Court ruled that the signs “do not have to correspond exactly to the boards given in the StVO 1960”, the decisive factor is that “there is no doubt” that a relevant traffic sign would be recognized in order to have been properly announced.
