The Markdorf Education Center ( BZM for short ) currently comprises a grammar school and a school network of secondary and technical secondary schools. The school building is located in Markdorf in the Lake Constance district in Baden-Württemberg . It was set up as a model school sponsored by the district in the early 1970s in order to provide a comprehensive range of educational opportunities in rural areas.

A Werkrealschule, a Realschule and a Gymnasium are housed in the Markdorf Education Center . The respective school types are located in one building; Sports fields and halls as well as the public library and the all-day area with cafeteria and games area are equally accessible to all students.

history

On the initiative of the parents' council of the Markdorf elementary school , after the initial rejection of the establishment of a Progymnasium by the Ministry of Education, the idea of a rural education center arose between 1963 and 1967. In September 1967 the cooperative BZM was established , which taught the students in different buildings. After the Überlingen district took over the sponsorship , the architectural office Bidlingmaier and Egenhofer from Stuttgart received the order to plan the school. The education center was officially inaugurated on October 27, 1972. One of the aims of the lessons at that time was equal opportunities for socially disadvantaged students through modern teaching methods and individual learning.

In 1973, all-day classes were put into operation for all types of schools, and the cafeteria was also opened. An extension with six classrooms was built as early as 1976, as the number of pupils had risen sharply, among other things due to pupils from Oberteuringen . The second extension followed in 1979. The Freizeit-AG project was also introduced, which is accessible to pupils of all types of schools and addresses various areas of interest. Further renovation and expansion measures took place in 1990 and 2000. In addition, a creative and musical center and the public library were created. In 2008 the BZM was expanded once more. Some floors and the cafeteria were renewed. The library also moved to a new building.

In 2016, a school association consisting of the Werkrealschule and the Realschule was founded within the education center.
