William "Bill" Bowrey (born December 25, 1943 in Sydney , New South Wales ) is a retired Australian tennis player .

Bowrey won the Australian tennis championships (now the Australian Open ) in 1968 , the last amateur before the Open era and the top seeded player . In the final he defeated the Spaniard Jose-Maria Gisbert in four sets 7: 5, 2: 6, 9: 7, 6: 4. It was his only participation in the final in a single tournament. He won five doubles tournaments, including the 1970 Rogers Cup .

On February 23, 1968, he married Lesley Turner .
