Bill Gwatney

William Gwatney (born August 26, 1959 , † August 13, 2008 in Little Rock ) was an American Democratic politician .

Bill Gwatney, longtime friend of former US President Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary Clinton , was a member of the Arkansas Senate from 1993 to 2002 . In 2007 he was elected chairman of the Arkansas Democratic Party . In that capacity, he was a super delegate to the Democratic nomination convention in the 2008 presidential election .

At noon on August 13, 2008, Gwatney was shot three times in his office at Party headquarters in Little Rock by Timothy Dale Johnson and injured so badly that he died in the hospital around 4 p.m. The assassin, who was initially able to escape, was killed in an exchange of fire with the police.

Gwatney, owner of three car dealerships in Pulaski County , left behind his wife Rebecca and two daughters from his first marriage.
