William Thomas "Bill" Lanigan (born August 6, 1947 in New York City , New York ) is a former American speed skater .

Athletic career

Lanigan won several national championship titles on the short distances between 1964 and 1969. At the sprint world championships in 1970 and 1973 he finished 18 and 19 in the final all-round competition. He also took part in the all-round world championships in 1966 , 1969 , 1970 , 1971 and 1973 , and achieved places between 18 and 29 in the all-around competition winning the 500-meter course at the 1973 World Cup. He took part in the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble , France and in 1972 in Sapporo , Japan , and was always among the 25 best.

Lanigan attended Marquette University and graduated in 1970.
