William RW "Bill" Murphy (born May 9, 1981 in Anaheim , California ) is an American baseball player in the pitching position . The left-hander has been playing for the Chiba Lotte Marines in the Japanese Pacific League since 2010 , before that he was active in the North American Major League since 2007 .

Murphy attended Arlington High School in Riverside and was selected in the 24th round of the 1999 draft by the San Francisco Giants , but did not sign a contract, but instead attended California State University, Northridge and played in the Big West Conference . Then he came into the pool of the MLB Draft 2002 , in which he was selected in the third round by the Oakland Athletics and this time also signed a contract. After two years with the minor league teams of the Athletics, he joined the Florida Marlins at the end of 2003 through a player swap , and in the summer of 2004 through two trades on consecutive days before the trading deadline, first with the Los Angeles Dodgers , then finally with the Arizona Diamondbacks . There he was used for the first time at AAA level with the Tucson Sidewinders in 2005 and was transferred to the first team in the 2007 roster expansion. On September 3, 2007, he had the first of a total of ten major league appearances as a reliever for the Diamondbacks: In six thrown innings, he scored an ERA of 5.69.

In spring 2008, the Diamondbacks put Murphy on Waiver , he was taken over by the Toronto Blue Jays on March 17th . There he spent the 2008 season in the squad of the AAA team Syracuse Chiefs and also started in 2009 at AAA level, now with the Las Vegas 51s. In April 2008 he was transferred to the first squad after Jesse Litsch was injured . In total, Murphy threw eight games for the Blue Jays with an ERA of 3.18. In December, he moved through a one-year contract with the Chiba Lotte Marines in Japan, which had ended the previous season with poor pitching in fifth place.

Murphy was also initially used as a reliever in the Marines, but after a strong start to the season he started more and more and was able to replace Yūki Karakawa, who was injured in May . Overall, he threw in the regular season 2010 in 38 games for Lotte, 20 of them from the start, and achieved an ERA of 3.75 and a win-loss record of 12-6.
