Bill Reid (bass player)

Bill Reid (* 1933 or 1934; † 2018 ) was a British jazz musician ( double bass , also tuba ) and music promoter.

Live and act

Reid played in the London jazz scene from the mid-1950s with Terry Lightfoot and His Jazzmen; first recordings were made in 1956 when the group performed at the Royal Festival Hall . In the following years he also worked in the bands of Ken Colyer , Sonny Morris , Hugh Rainey , Archie Semple , Nat Gonella and Alex Welsh . As a promoter, he brokered The Beatles' first appearance outside of their hometown of Liverpool . In the field of jazz he was involved in 54 recording sessions between 1956 and 1986.
