William Allen "Bill" Spencer (born June 23, 1936 in Russellville ) is a former American biathlete .

Bill Spencer started out as a student at the University of Utah , where he graduated in 1961, then in the 1960s as a sports soldier for the US Army . In 1968 he was stationed at Fort Richardson . His sister Lynn von der Heide-Spencer-Galanes was an Olympic cross-country skier . Spencer is considered one of the pioneers of US biathlon. At the first Olympic biathlon competitions in 1960 in Squaw Valley , it was used as a forerunner. In 1964 he was able to take part in the Olympic individual competition for the first time in Innsbruck and was 30 with an average duration and four shooting errors. In 1964 he also took part in the military world championships for the first time , in which he competed annually until 1967. He also started in Garmisch-Partenkirchen at the Biathlon World Championships in 1966 . In the individual, Spencer took 40th place and was also eleventh with Edward Williams , John Ehrensbeck and Gerald F. Varnam in the relay competition, which was officially held for the first time as part of the World Championship.

Spencer won the US singles title in 1965 and 1966 nationally, as well as the 1965 Canadian championship title. After his active career, Spencer became a coach and coached the US team at five Olympic Games. Then he was with another three games as the official representative of the International Biathlon Union present and was with the biathlon competitions of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games of Salt Lake City deputy head. He is married to cross-country skier Alison Owen-Spencer . Spencer is a member of the US Biathlon Hall of Fame .
