Bill Tancred
Bill Tancred (actually William Raymond Tancred; born August 6, 1942 in Quetta , Pakistan ) is a former British discus thrower and shot putter .
In 1966 he started for England at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Kingston, ninth in the discus throw and eighth in the shot put. In the discus throw at the European Athletics Championships in Belgrade , he failed in qualifying. Even at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City and at the European Championship in Athens in 1969 , he did not get past the first round in the discus throw.
He also won bronze in the discus throw at the British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in 1970 and was eliminated again in the preliminary round at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich .
In 1974 he won silver in the discus throw at the British Commonwealth Games in Christchurch and was fourth in the shot put. In the discus throw of the EM in Rome , he failed again in the qualification.
He was English champion in discus throwing seven times (1966–1970, 1972, 1973) and twice English indoor champion in shot put (1969, 1976).
His younger brother Pete Tancred was also successful as a discus thrower.
