William H. "Bill" Thompson (born July 8, 1913 in Terre Haute , Indiana ; died July 15, 1971 in Culver City , California ) was an American radio and television actor . He was best known for his roles in the radio series Fibber McGee and Molly and for the synchronization of Droopy Dog .

life and career

The son of Vaudeville parents began his career on Chicago radio, where he appeared in 1934 on the radio show Breakfast Club. From 1936 to 1946 he played various roles in Fibber McGee and Molly ; this series made him known. The role often played by Thompson Wallace Wimple inspired Tex Avery to his character Droopy Dog , which was also played by Thompson.

In 1943 he broke off his career to join the US Navy . In 1946 he returned to the Fibber McGee Show. On February 21, 1950, Thompson married Mary Margaret McBride. He returned to the role of Droopy Dog. He later tried his luck at Disney . Among other things, he spoke Dodo in Alice in Wonderland and the voice of Mr. Smee and other pirates in Peter Pan . In addition, he was involved in Susi und Trolch . He also lent his voice to King Hubert in Sleeping Beauty .

Bill Thompson died of septic shock a week after his 58th birthday .
