Bill Walsh (producer)

Bill Walsh (born September 30, 1913 in New York City , † January 27, 1975 in Los Angeles ; actually William Crozier Walsh ) was an American film producer , screenwriter and comic book writer who worked for Walt Disney from 1943 until his death . In 1965 he received an Oscar nomination in two categories for the film Mary Poppins .

Life

Walsh was born in New York to a Canadian and an Irish woman, and spent his youth with relatives in Cincinnati , where he also attended university . In the 1930s and 40s he worked for a PR agency and later became its partner. He got to know the actor and ventriloquist Edgar Bergen and worked for him as a writer. In 1943 he started at Disney Studios, at the same time in the PR department and as a comic writer for the comic strips by Floyd Gottfredson . In 1950/1951, Walsh began producing programs for television on behalf of Walt Disney . First cartoon productions arose , from 1955 he turned to real films.

Bill Walsh was involved in a large number of popular and successful Disney films, the greatest successes being the films about the VW Beetle Herbie . Less than a year after the second Herbie film hit theaters, Walsh died of a heart attack at the age of 61 .
