history

The bookbinder Max Friedrich Knüppel founded the Billerbecker Anzeiger in 1874. The first edition appeared on January 1, 1874 with four pages. Until the First World War , the newspaper was limited to one issue a week on Sundays; two issues a week since the 1920s. After the inflationary years ended , the newspaper was published Monday through Saturday. In the era of National Socialism , the paper was brought into line . In 1942 the Anzeiger ceased publication and was replaced by the party organ of the NSDAP Westphalian daily newspaper . In 1949 the Billerbecker Anzeiger was re-established; the local reporting was initially done by the owner. 1972 the newspaper was sold to the publishing house J. Fleißig Allgemeine Zeitung . The local pages have also been written in Coesfeld since then. Since 1996 the newspaper has had an editorial office in Billerbeck again. The cover pages are supplied by the Westfälische Nachrichten in Münster . There the newspaper like the “Allgemeine Zeitung” and its further subsidiary edition, the “Gescherer Zeitung”, are printed in the Aschendorff printing house on the Hansalinie.
