William Stanley "Billy" Molyneux (born January 10, 1944 in Liverpool ) is a former English football goalkeeper who was active for Liverpool , Oldham Athletic and Wigan Athletic .

Career

Molyneux came in 1961 from the Liverpool Combination amateur club Earle FC for Liverpool FC . There he was initially registered as an amateur before signing a professional contract in November 1963. In the shadow of Tommy Lawrence , the only 1.75 meter tall Molyneux had to wait a long time for a deployment in the First Division . In April 1965 he was one of four debutants alongside Alan Hignett , Thomas Lowry and John Sealey in a 3-1 away win against Wolverhampton Wanderers on the last day of the 1964/65 season , as a large part of the regular team for the upcoming FA Cup Finale was spared. As for his three fellow debutants, the mission remained the only competitive game in Liverpool FC's jersey.

In 1967, the powerful goalkeeper moved to Oldham Athletic in the Third Division . After he was used in the summer of 1967 on a trip to Rhodesia in Kwekwe against Rio Tinto , he had to wait until October 1968 for the departure of goalkeeper David Best before he made his competitive debut. After a series of six missions, he lost the place in goal to goalkeeper Barry Gordine , who was on loan from Sheffield United , and finally left the club after relegation to the Fourth Division in mid-1969.

He then continued his career in non-league football , initially briefly in the Northern Premier League with Wigan Athletic and then with FC Burscough .
