Bintje
The Bintje is a medium early potato variety . It was created in 1905 from a cross between the Munstersen and Fransen varieties by the Dutch botanist Kornelis Lieuwes de Vries .
The Bintje shows good herb development and has a yellow skin color. Due to the large tuber size, you can achieve a high yield with the Bintje, whereby the potato is mostly used for fresh consumption, French fries or for the production of chips . It is to be classified between cooking type C (floury cooking) and cooking type B (predominantly waxy). Bintje are very susceptible to late blight and tuber blight as well as to potato nematodes , but show good resistance to blue staining .
Bintje was voted Potato of the Year in Germany in 2012 .
Together with Quarta, Bintje was the basis for breeding the Ditta variety .
