Sieglinde is a grown since 1935, early maturing potato variety with long-oval to long tubers with yellow, festkochendem meat. Their taste is fine-spicy and slightly greasy. The flowers are white.

Sieglinde is resistant to potato wart and highly resistant to Rhizoctonia , Erwinia blackleg , potato virus A and potato virus Y. In contrast, it is susceptible to late blight , late blight , scab , Fusarium blight , leaf roll virus , potato virus M, potato virus X and potato nematode .

A jury made up of environmental, consumer and farmer associations named it Potato Variety of the Year 2010.

Moor Sieglinde

Sieglinde potatoes grown in bog soil, especially in Teufelsmoor or Donaumoos , are considered to be particularly tasty. In addition, peat soil does not adhere to the potatoes, so they can be packed and sold without washing.

Plant variety protection and approval

Sieglinde is the oldest German potato variety that is approved for commercial cultivation by the Bundessortenamt . Their approval was applied for in 1935 by the Böhm potato grower from the Lüneburg Heath. Plant variety protection for potatoes is 30 years in Germany. Sieglinde is therefore now "free".

In the course of the controversy surrounding the Linda potato variety , the Financial Times Deutschland reported in 2005 that the breeder Europlant was striving to have Sieglinde's approval revoked. This was rejected by Europlant as a false report.
