Bira Dembélé (born March 22, 1988 in Villepinte ) is a French football player of Malian origin who has been under contract with the French third division club Stade Laval since 2017 .

Club career

Dembélé grew up in the Paris area and started playing football at a small club from Neuilly-sur-Marne . In his youth he played for various clubs in the metropolitan area of the French capital until he moved to the professional club Stade Rennes in 2005 at the age of 17 . At Rennes, he formed the central defense of the reserve team with Prince Oniangué and made it possible through his performances that he moved up to the first team for the 2007/08 season, even if he continued to be used mainly for the second selection. He had previously won the French reserve team championship in 2007. Injuries to the regular players favored his situation and helped him to his first division debut, which he made in the 1-1 draw against FC Metz on January 26, 2008. After this game, in which he was called up for the full 90 minutes, he played a few more times for the professional team, but could not establish himself there.

Accordingly, those responsible decided in the summer of 2009 to transfer the player to US Boulogne, which had been promoted to the first division for the first time . Even if he had to accept relegation with the team at the end of the 2009/10 season, he was used regularly. Despite his 22 top division games in one year for Boulogne, coach Frédéric Antonetti did not rely on the young player in Rennes, so Dembélé only played for the reserve until he left the club in 2011 when his contract expired.

He signed with the second division club CS Sedan , for whom he made his debut on the fourth match day of the 2011/12 season and saw the yellow-red card in his first league appearance after 72 minutes. Dembélé was not considered again for the professional team and was awarded to the third division Red Star Paris for the winter break of 2011/12 . At Red Star he was given a regular place and played a total of nine third division games before he sustained a relatively long-term injury in early April 2012. In the summer of the same year he returned to Sedan, but was henceforth only used in the reserve team and thus in the fifth division. Accordingly, his contract was not extended at the end of the 2012/13 season.

In February 2014 he found work at the English third division FC Stevenage and was able to fight for a regular place with them. At the end of the 2013/14 season he had to accept relegation to the fourth division, but remained loyal to the club; in England the fourth division is still a national professional league. In the summer break of 2015 Dembélé moved to FC Barnet, who had previously been promoted to this division . In the summer of 2017, she returned to France at Stade Laval .

National team

A few months after his first appearance for Rennes, Dembélé was considered for the French U-21 selection in May 2008 and made his debut for this in a 1-1 friendly match against Portugal. The player played for his country in three other games, most recently on March 27, 2009 in a 3-0 win against Estonia. Dembélé only played friendly matches in the national jersey of the French youth.
