The Bird River ( English for "Bird River") is a right tributary of the Winnipeg River in the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Manitoba .
The Bird River has its source in Woodland Caribou Provincial Park in western Ontario. It flows through the Canadian Shield initially in a south-westerly direction, later in a westerly direction. It flows through numerous lakes, including Paull Lake , Eagle Lake , Chase Lake , Snowshoe Lake , McGregor Lake , Elbow Lake , Tulabi Lake and Bird Lake . The tributary Talon River flows into Eagle Lake . In the middle reaches the Bird River flows through the Nopiming Provincial Park in the east of Manitoba . Manitoba Provincial Road 315 runs along the river west of Bird Lake . Bird River is also located here . Finally, the Bird River flows into the eastern part of Lac du Bonnet , through which the Winnipeg River flows. The mean discharge at the outflow from Bird Lake is 6.4 m³ / s. The river has a length of about 140 km.
In the 19th century the river was also called “Riviere l'Oiseau” ( French for “bird river”).
The Bird River in Nopiming Provincial Park is developed as a white water body for canoeing and kayaking .
