Birger Larsen
Birger Larsen (born December 22, 1961 in Hvidovre , † October 26, 2016 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish film director and screenwriter .
Life
Birger Larsen began his film career as an actor. When he was 16, he played the role of Claus in the film Do you want to see my pretty belly button? from 1978. After working as a lighting technician for some time, he first directed the film Let the polar bears dance in 1990 . The film was nominated as a Danish contribution for the best foreign language film for the 1991 Academy Awards, but did not make the nomination list. He also won the Bodil Award for best Danish film with this film .
This was followed in 1992 between heaven and earth as well as various contributions for Danish television. At the 1997 Academy Awards , his short film Sweethearts was nominated for Best Short Film, but lost to Visas and Virtue by Chris Tashima .
In 2002 he directed the miniseries The Fifth Woman . He also shot Midsummer Murder, an episode in the film series about Henning Mankell's works. This was followed by the first three episodes of Commissioner Lund - The Crime and two two-part series in the series Northern Lights - Murderers without Regrets . His last directorial work was in 2016 Klassefesten 3: Dåben , on which he worked until his death. He died on October 26 of the same year after a long illness at the age of 54.
