Birgit Berg-Block (* 1942 in Wiesbaden ) is a German artist whose work follows the tradition of Dada , Surrealism and Arte Povera .

life and work

From 1961 to 1964 Berg-Block studied at the Werkkunstschule Wiesbaden , graphics department, then from 1962 to 1964 lithography and painting with Edgar Ehses . Her preoccupation with Far Eastern art also fell into these years. Influenced by Edgar Ehse's miniatures, small-format informal pictures, gouaches and collages were created . From 1964 to 1966 he studied painting at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main .

Her first objects and object boxes were created in the 1980s and 1990s. Working with a wide variety of materials and objects placed in other contexts includes controlled coincidences and objet trouvé in the design process. Irritation and atmospheric condensation of feelings lead to fairytale and mythical stories. Dealing with life, illness and death, questioning social norms and laws, and diving into surrealistic and absurd worlds are her playing field to this day. Influenced by the death of her grandmother, the installation "Transitions" was created in 2003 in the Christ Church in Mainz - an examination of death, transience and new life. Birgit Berg-Block lives and works in Wiesbaden.
