Birgit Schneider

Birgit Schneider (* 1971 in Bergisch Gladbach ) is a German geoscientist , palaeoceanographer , climate researcher and university professor .

Scientific career

Birgit Schneider initially studied from 1991 to 1994 at the Free University of Berlin . In 1999 she completed her studies at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel with a diploma in geography . From 1999 to 2002 she was a doctoral student at the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar Research (AWI) in Bremerhaven and received her doctorate in the geosciences department at the University of Bremen in 2002 . From 2002 to 2007 she was a researcher ( postdoc ) at the Institute for Oceanography at the Kiel University, Institute for Geosciences at the Kiel University, the Leibniz Institute for Marine Sciences in Kiel and at the Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l'Environnement (LSCE) , Gif-sur-Yvettes in France . Between 2008 and 2011 she received a junior professorship at Kiel University, where she has been a professor since 2011 .

Positions

Since 2008, Birgit Schneider has been a member of the “Future Ocean” cluster of excellence at Kiel University and also a member of the Collaborative Research Initiative Collaborative Research Center 754 of the GEOMAR Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research Kiel Kiel.
