After her spinal cord injury, Skarstein started para rowing and made her World Cup debut in 2013. In the same year she was runner-up in the single world championship. Nevertheless, she is among the world's best in this sport and won the overall World Cup as well as several bronze and silver medals at world championships in 2018.
