Birgitt Borkopp-Restle

Birgitt Borkopp-Restle (born 1958 ) is a German art historian and professor at the Institute for Art History at the University of Bern .

Life

Borkopp-Restle grew up in the Rhineland and attended the Marienberg high school in Neuss . She studied art history, English , Romance studies and Byzantine studies in Bonn . After completing her doctorate , she initially worked as an exhibition assistant at the Museum Schnütgen in Cologne , then as a trainee at the Germanic National Museum in Nuremberg . From 1993 to 2004 she was the curator for the textile and costume collection of the Bavarian National Museum in Munich and from 2005 to 2008 director of the Museum of Applied Arts Cologne .

Since the end of 2009, Borkopp-Restle has been a professor for the history of the textile arts (Werner and Margaret Abegg endowed professorship ). Borkopp-Restle is president of the Center International d´Etude des Textiles Anciens (CIETA) and chairwoman of the Ruth Bleckwenn Foundation for the promotion of textile and costume research.
