The Birka Stockholm is a cruise ship owned by the Swedish shipping company Birka Cruises , which entered service in 2004 as Birka Paradise . The ship has had its current name since January 2013.

history

The Birka Paradise was laid down on October 20, 2003 under the hull number 442 at Aker Finnyards in Turku and launched on April 16, 2004. After its delivery to the Birka Line on November 8, 2004, the ship began cruising between Stockholm and Mariehamn on November 11 .

In the following years the Birka Paradise was used on various routes from Stockholm. In June 2009 Stockholm finally also became the official home port of the ship, which had been registered in Mariehamn up to then. Two years later, Birka Paradise became the property of Rederiaktiebolaget Eckerö in June 2011, but was still managed by Birka Cruises.

After a stay in the shipyard in Naantali , the ship was renamed Birka Stockholm in January 2013 . In June 2013 the Birka Stockholm drove under charter for the tour operator Grandtours for a single cruise off the coast of Estonia to Saaremaa . Since then, the ship has been used again under the management of Birka Cruises. In official advertisements by the shipping company, the Birka Stockholm is often referred to only as the Birka .

In July 2020, Birka Cruises ceased operations due to the corona pandemic .
