Pear stem (bishop green)
Birnstengel is a district of the municipality of Bischofsgrün in the Upper Franconian district of Bayreuth .
location
It is located northeast of the center of Bischofsgrün on the B 303 / E 48 (Fichtelgebirgsstraße) in the valley of the White Main between 650 and 1050 m above sea level in the Fichtelgebirge Nature Park .
history
There was already an estate there in the middle of the 14th century. In 1817 there was a pitch smelter there, which produced rosin and pitch . In 1834 Birnstengel consisted of 30 houses and 250 residents. At that time, mainly workers in industrial and craft businesses lived there, for example in a nearby blast furnace .
