Birutė Vėsaitė

Birutė Vėsaitė (born August 19, 1951 in Kaunas ) is a Lithuanian politician. The former Minister of Economic Affairs (2012–2013) is a member of the Seimas .

Life

After graduating from the Jonas Jablonskis Middle School in Kaunas in 1967 , Vėsaitė completed a diploma in chemical technology at the Kauno politechnikos institutas in 1974 and, from 1980, studied English at the Vilniaus universitetas . In 1982 she received her doctorate from the Leningrad Textile Institute . From 1974 to 1984 she was an engineer, from 1984 to 1990 assistant at the Lietuvos veterinarijos akademija , from 1990 to 2000 lecturer at the Department of Chemistry and lecturer at Kauno technologijos universitetas .

From 1997 to 2000 she was on Kaunas City Council . She has been a member of the Seimas since 2000 . From December 2012 to June 2013 she was Lithuania's Minister of Economic Affairs in the Butkevičius cabinet .

From 1990 Birutė Vėsaitė was a member of the Lithuanian Social Democrats . Until 2015 she was deputy party leader of the LSDP , deputy of Algirdas Butkevičius .
