β-bisabolene is a bisabolene and is a monocyclic sesquiterpene .

Lemons

In the essential oil of cubeb pepper , lemon and oregano there is β-bisabolen. It has a balsamic odor and is approved as a food additive in Europe.

Hernandulcin , a natural sweetener from the Aztec sweet herb Lippia dulcis , which is about a thousand times sweeter than sucrose, is derived from bisabolene .

Extraction

β-Bisabolen can of course be obtained from bergamot oil from Citrus bergamia. It can be obtained synthetically from farnesol (or nerolidol ) by the action of formate with elimination of water .
