The Bishop National Bank of Hawaii , also known as First Hawaiian Bank , Bishop National Bank Waimea Branch and Bishop First National Bank Waimea Branch called, is in the National Register of Historic Places listed building in the town of Waimea on the island of Kaua'i of the State of Hawaii the United States . The building was built in 1929 and still serves as a bank today.

history

The bank building, completed on December 29, 1929, replaced a previous building from 1911. The Waimea Branch was the second branch of the Bishop National Bank after the branch in Hilo on the Big Island . At the time of construction, the branch served all of Kaua'i. After several name changes, the name was changed in 1969 to the First Hawaiian Bank, which still exists today.

On November 29, 1978, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. It was also registered as a Historic Site by the State Historic Preservation Division of the State of Hawaii (SHPD Historic Site Number: 30-05-9311).

description

The building of the First Hawaiian Bank is a one-story, neoclassical concrete building, which is typical for the period after the First World War . To protect against flooding , the ground floor was constructed about one meter higher. The steps of the entrance portal are flanked on both sides by two Ionic columns on which the cornice rests. The roof is surrounded by a serrated frieze with a crown-shaped top and a parapet consisting partly of balustrades . The interior is not historic.
