Bismuth subsalicylate is a white, odorless solid that is practically insoluble in water and ethanol. The compound decomposes in boiling water and alkalis.

use

Bismuth subsalicylate is used to treat temporary symptoms of the stomach and gastrointestinal tract, such as diarrhea , heartburn, and nausea. In the United States , bismuth subsalicylate has the well-known trade name Pepto-Bismol .

The compound is also used as a fungicide .
