The Bison class (including Bison icebreaker or same icebreaker ) is a series of six icebreakers of the project in 2413, which for the GDR - inland waterways have been built.
General
The Bison class was designed for burglar operations on the Elbe and Oder and built from 1966 to 1968 at VEB Yachtwerft Berlin .
The ice-reinforced hull is made of steel and divided into six compartments by five bulkheads . The original drive consisted of two marine diesel engines of type 6 VD 18/15 A from VEB Schwermaschinenbau "Karl Liebknecht" , which acted on two propellers . With a drive power of 515 kW , a speed of 18 km / h was achieved. At the end of the 1990s , the engines were replaced and some of the icebreakers were converted into single-screw ships.
units
With the commissioning, the icebreakers were subordinated to the technical fleet and thus to the waterway authorities. After the reunification of Germany , all units were taken over by the water and shipping authorities.
One unit was sold to the Ed Line shipping company and put back into service as Eis Ed in December 2010 .
