Edendale is a small town in the Southland District of the Southland regionon the South Island of New Zealand .

geography

The place is about 35 km northeast of Invercargill in the Southland Plains between Gore in the north and Invercargill in the southwest.

population

In the 2013 census, the town had 555 inhabitants, 8.2% more than in the 2006 census.

economy

The Fonterra company operates a processing plant for milk powder in Edendale , which, according to its own statements, has been the largest in the world since a technical upgrade in 2009.

Infrastructure

Edendale is connected to both the New Zealand State Highway 1 , which connects the place with Gore coming from Invercargill , as well as to the rail network of the Main South Line , on which people were carried until the setting in 2002. During this time the place was a stopping point of the Southerner s. Since 2002 only freight traffic has been transported on the route.
