history

The oldest part of the Bison, Bison Schweiz AG was founded in 1983. Several sister companies for administration, hardware and software providers are grouped around this core company. In the course of time, Bison built up an extensive network of partnerships in Europe, including companies in Germany ( SoftM , Dakoda), the Netherlands (RBK) and Great Britain (Medulla). Even before the events in April 2010, Bison had become one of the 100 largest employers in Central Switzerland.

In 2012, Bison changed its strategy and took over external companies for the first time. In May 2012, the takeover of the trading specialist Marketstream in Hamburg is announced. The company traded under the name Bison Marketstream GmbH . In January 2013, Bison took over the Maxess Systemhaus in Kaiserslautern , a retail specialist, with retroactive effect from December 31, 2012 . The company was continued as Bison Deutschland GmbH .

Also in December 2012, Bison combined the activities, which were previously spread over three locations, in a building in the Swiss municipality of Oberkirch , near the former headquarters in Sursee. The Büron and Sempach locations were given up.

In October 2014, Fenaco took over all shares in the company. The acting CEO Rudi Fehlmann was replaced ad interim by the Chairman of the Bison Board of Directors and former fenaco CFO Werner Beyer.

Bison Deutschland GmbH in Kaiserslautern and Bison Marketstream GmbH in Hamburg bundled their activities in autumn 2016 with retroactive effect from January 1, 2016, and from now on they will operate jointly under the name Bison Deutschland GmbH.

Comparex (PC goods)

In 2002 PC-Ware took over a 70% majority stake in Bison Systems AG in Sursee. The remaining 30% are held by Bison Holding. The company's name was changed to PC-Ware in April 2007 and to Comparex in March 2010. On April 14, 2010, specialist publications reported the almost complete change in the workforce from Comparex (Switzerland) to Bison. On April 13, 2010 the entire management of Comparex Switzerland and a large part of the workforce, a total of 180 of approx. 200 employees, the termination at Comparex and held an employment guarantee from the CEO of Bison in their hands. The "event that is unique in Swiss economic history" led to a legal dispute between Bison and Comparex. CEO Fehlmann redeemed the employment guarantee by founding Bison IT Services AG, which is to provide IT services for sister companies and third parties. The new company was initially domiciled in Büron and, from December 2012, Sursee . The civil law suits brought by Comparex against Bison were dismissed on August 25, 2010 by the Sursee District Court.

With the rejection of the lawsuit at the Sursee District Court, the legal dispute was not yet resolved. On December 14, 2010, the financially troubled Comparex announced in a press release the filing of a claim for damages in the amount of "probably CHF 30 million". Until the beginning of 2012, neither these claims nor the legal investigation of the events by the Lucerne public prosecutor's office had been completed.

In 2015, the Lucerne public prosecutor closed the investigation in two of the nine cases and charged the former CEO Rudi Fehlmann and the former head of Comparex Switzerland, Oliver Schalch, with improper business management, violation of manufacturing and trade secrets and unfair competition. Three other proceedings have been closed and four investigative proceedings are ongoing.

At the beginning of 2019, Bison IT Services was renamed BitHawk. Oliver Schalch is the CEO and became a co-owner of BitHawk through a management buyout at the end of September 2019.
