The Diocese of Haimen ( Latin : Dioecesis Haemenensis ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in Haimen in the People's Republic of China .

history

Pope Pius XI founded with the Bulle Ut aucto the Apostolic Vicariate Haimen on August 11, 1926 from cessions of territory of the Apostolic Vicariate Nanjing. The first bishop of the diocese was among the first six Chinese bishops appointed by Pope Pius XI. ordained priests in Rome in 1926 .

With the Apostolic Constitution Quotidie Nos it was raised to the diocese on April 11, 1946.

On April 21, 2010, a new bishop, Joseph Shen Bin, a representative of the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association, was ordained but was recognized by the Holy See . The previous Bishop Matthew Yu Chengcai, who was not recognized by Rome , died in 2006.
