history
Pope Leo XIII. founded the Apostolic Vicariate of South Shaanxi on August 2, 1887 out of territory from the Apostolic Vicariate of Shaanxi . On March 2, 1933, it lost part of its territory to establish the Xing'anfu Apostolic Prefecture .
With the Apostolic Constitution Sinarum it was elevated to a diocese on April 11, 1946. In 1981, the secret bishop Bartholomew Yu Cheng-ti was consecrated while Li Sheng-xue was the official bishop.
