The Archdiocese of Xi'an ( lat. : Archidioecesis Singanensis ; Ch. :西安,長安) is in the People's Republic of China Located diocese of the Roman Catholic Church and Metropolitan seat.

history

Under Pope Pius IX. the Apostolic Vicariate Scen-Si was founded on May 21, 1878 from the Vicariate North Scen-Shi (陝西 北 境). Under Pope Pius X , in 1911 it was renamed the Apostolic Vicariate Shensi. On December 3, 1924, the Apostolic Vicariate Sianfu (西安 府) was founded. By Pope Pius XII. the vicariate was raised to today's Archdiocese of Xi'an on April 11, 1946,

The suffragans Zhouzhi [盩 厔], Fengxiang [鳳翔], Hanzhong [漢中], Sanyuan [三原] and the Yan'an [延安] are assigned to the archbishopric .

Due to the political situation, the archbishopric could no longer be occupied after the death of Pacifico Giulio Vanni in 1952, the only archbishop recognized by the Roman Catholic Church . Archbishop Anthony Dang Mingyan , who has been in office since 2006, was installed with the recognition of the Roman Curia.
