Tsingtao diocese
The diocese of Tsingtao (lat. Dioecesis Zimtaovensis ), located in the People's Republic of China , was founded as an Apostolic Prefecture on February 11, 1925 , raised to the Apostolic Vicariate on June 14, 1928, and on April 11, 1946 to the diocese .
The 17,000 km² diocese, which belongs to the ecclesiastical province of Tsinan ( Jinan ), counted 23,588 Catholics in 1950, which represented 0.7% of the population in this region. With 6 diocesan priests, 22 religious priests and 87 religious sisters in 9 parishes , it was a mission area of the Steyler missionaries , who also provided the apostolic vicars and the two bishops.
After the death of Augustin Olbert SVD, who came from Germany , on November 18, 1964, the diocese could no longer be occupied due to the political situation.
